Artist Statement:
In my view, there are countless people who either do not know or feel that the fighting game genre is too complex or complicated. They tend to see the genre as just another type of game, or as a straightforward way to pass time, which it can be, but at the same time, there are many further facets to it, alongside a progression into a community that supports and pushes each other, accepting all who enter and evolving alongside those who compose it, that is what I wanted to share.
My goal with my piece was to express my love and joy for the Fighting game genre, alongside the many unique forms, the genre can take, and even more specifically the evolution of the medium, alongside some general personal favorites, such as particularly good soundtracks, and the sense of so to say “hype” and the intense passion in the genre, even if the total extent could not be expressed in my artwork.
I maintained an overly simplistic style to challenge the idea that fighting games are overly complex and express those complexities in the simplest way possible avoiding that sensory overload that some may get when they see a fighting game for the first time alongside adding some additional details to better convey that evolution of the genre. In addition, I used many reference images, to faithfully recreate each different game, applying that simplistic style, but trying to incorporate the elements from those games, to show respect.
