Artist Statement: If you can, think about your daily activities, those things that you do each and every day, so much that it eventually becomes a habit, or evolves into something even more set-in-stone. It becomes something you do automatically, and without focus, each individual step blending and merging, becoming an intense blob of tasks, and if it is a negative routine, slowly realizing your need to shift it.
For this project, my primary focus was to convey the universal idea of the natural monotony that we all fall into once we get into a routine, ending with the realization that you are in that routine, and consciously beginning again. In particular, I used different effects like echo, volume adjustments, occasional silence, and especially a large number of sound overlaps, to represent the shift and evolution as you move through that routine, slowly moving to autopilot and the inevitable overlap and confusion that comes from going through that same routine and specifically at the end, starting that cycle over with a new appreciation and value to the routine.
Something I could improve on though is the transitions between each different section, as that is a common theme between the critiques, in addition to some smaller things like the differences in sound level, but that was more intentional than the transitions, and I could have added more complexity to the components of the piece, which I would absolutely do if able to do it again.
